***STARK would like to congratulate Dave Brodsky and Celinez Bosque for "THE RHYTHMS OF NEW YORK" TV SHOW

WINS THE 2009 BETA AWARD FOR

BEST ENTERTAINMENT/VARIETY/PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM

NEW YORK CITY (NOVEMBER 13, 2009) – In the televised 2009 BETA Award ceremonies held at the Lovinger Theater in the Bronx, NY on November 12, “The Rhythms of New York” television series won the award in the 'Best Entertainment/Variety/Performing Arts" category.

“The Rhythms of New York” is the television series that examines the unique musical scene that helps make NYC the “Media Capital” of the world. The program showcases artists ranging from beginners to highly seasoned professionals from a vast array of cultures. This diverse program is produced and hosted by respected entertainment industry veteran, Dave Brodsky, and co-hosted by actress Celinez Bosque. Dave and Celinez doggedly scour the The Big Apple for artists that help to make up its musical heritage and then showcase their performances on "The Rhythms of New York". These performances are recorded live and are combined with interviews of the artists. The interviews will enable the viewer to share the dreams, ego, and indecision that are a part of being a musician in the fishbowl that is New York.

Dave Brodsky, the recipient of the BETA (Bronx Excellence in Television Access) Award, stated "It's an honor to receive the BETA Award. 'The Rhythms of New York' is all about giving performers a forum that they may otherwise not have to showcase their talents." He added, that "it's a team effort. Thank you to Celinez Bosque our wonderful co-host, Alan Carlton our director extraordinaire, and all those involved in the show's production: Edwin Arzu, Myles Carlton, and Greg Fore, and everyone at Bronxnet. A special thank you to our friends at Slap Energy Drinks for their support from the beginning, and, a big thank you to all of the talented artists that have appeared on the program."

Co-host Celinez Bosque said "I'm excited to be part of an award winning program. I'm especially proud that we can have a role in exposing the artists' creative and wonderful talent to our worldwide audience."

"The Rhythms of New York" is produced through the facilities of Bronx Community Cable Programming Corporation.

STARK's Lani Ford to play solo acoustic tour in the UK - October 24, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NEW YORK CITY (October 25, 2009) – STARK’S LANI FORD RETURNS TO THE UK TO PLAY SOLO ACOUSTIC TOUR

Lani Ford of the New York City hard rock trio, STARK, will return to the UK November 10-20, 2009 to play several acoustic shows with Sylvie T and her band Lilith’s Army with several gigs in Southern England and London, including a return to the legendary Hope & Anchor. When STARK played in the UK in March 2008, while stopping for petrol on the highway between Leeds and London, they met their mirror image in the female-fronted hard rock trio Lilith’s Army. Sylvie T and Lani Ford became fast friends and STARK hosted Sylvie solo acoustic last April in NYC. Now, Lilith’s Army returns the favor and it should be fun as usual as the energy between these two lasses is undeniable and has already culminated in one collaboration between the singer/songwriters so far…they hope to have more after this experience.

Across the pond, STARK played October 2, 2009 for GNYC-TV’s M.E.A.N.Y.Fest in New York City with London Egg, The Grip Weeds, and Frank Sidebottom at The Studio at Webster Hall as part of a Little Steven’s Underground Garage and Wicked Cool Records showcase.

STARK’s Joe Hogan and Lani Ford returned from Nashville in August where the two played seven acoustic duo showcases as part of the Indiegrrl in the Arts Conference and Showcase. Lani will guest host on the radio show Rew & Who December 23rd.

In the summer of 2009, STARK also played the Girls Rock and Girls Rule Showcase at Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn, New York and Make Music New York for the 3rd year in a row. This year, the whole band was featured on Punk Island at Governor’s Island during a day of free music throughout the whole city. Lani Ford, a multi ASCAP Plus award winner and Daisy Rock Guitars endorsed artist, was a featured Triple R Girl for June on www.rockandrollreport.com. STARK’s music video for the song “OH NO!” (directed by Joe Covino of East Village Studios and shot in Coney Island, New York and at Arlene’s Grocery in NYC) was featured at The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival as well as the Royal Flush Film Festival, both in New York City in October 2009.

STARK’s sophomore CD Put It To Your Head has been receiving great press and radio all over the world since it’s release in January 2008. STARK will release a third album of nine songs, Race To The Floor, this winter.

Check out the official website www.starknyc.com or www.myspace.com/stark. STARK Booking and Info: Kicking and Screaming Music /Lani Ford

Ticket info follows. I also have free passes for the opening night party on Oct. 22 so let me know if you’d like one.
HOW TO PURCHASE TICKETS—tickets are available for purchase on nyfilmvideo.com
You can purchase Tickets by clicking the tickets icon (TKTS) next to your film’s title/block on the film schedule at www.nyfilmvideo.com This will take you to the appropriate Ticketweb page.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. A single ticket gets you into the screening block and the after-party for that night.
**The Festival advises guests to purchase tickets (single or block) in advance because film screenings sell out in advance. Once a film sells out (in advance or at the door), there will be no more tickets left for purchase for that particular screening. We have a lot of local NYC/NJ films and we estimate that lots of blocks will sell out either in advance or at the door**
TICKET BLOCK ORDERS (25 + TICKETS)
You can purchase a block of 25 + tickets through the festival (we will waive the surcharge fee for 25 and higher ticket purchases!) or Ticketweb at www.ticketweb.com, or by calling 1-866-468-7619.
You can either order a block of tickets through Ticketweb.com or order them through the NYIFF.
A. If you order through Ticketweb.com: You can purchase up to 25 tickets through Ticketweb at www.ticketweb.com, or by calling 1-866-468-7619 or you can Click on the ‘TKTS’ icon next to your film’s title or go to Ticketweb’s site at: www.ticketweb.com and type in the film title under ‘search events by keyword’ in the purple box reading: ‘To buy tickets, start here.’ If you order 25 tickets through Ticketweb, it's $300, and Ticketweb charges a $3 per ticket surcharge, equaling about $375 total.
B. If you order through the NYIFF (The Best Deal & Price & Includes Shipping):
You can order tickets through the NYIFF for a flat rate of $12 per ticket.
If you buy tickets through the festival we can waive the $3 per ticket surcharge that Ticketweb charges, i.e., 25 tickets through us is $300, through Ticketweb is about $375 with surcharges.
If you wish to purchase block tickets, please make a check payable to the NYIFF and mail to:
NYIFF

Another Put It To Your Head review - May 17, 2009

Saturday, May 16, 2009
STARK - Put it to Your Head
As it’s title implies, Stark’s Put it to Your Head is an album motivated by strong actions drawn from life taxing experiences, their effects, and possessing the individual will to over come them all and chalk it up to being, well, just life. It is the second release from this New York City rock trio, whose music and attitude is directly informed and reflective of it’s home.

What sets Stark apart from being your run-of-the-mill New York City bar band are their subtly layered style and the cohesive incorporation of that style. Their music is decidedly rock but not subjugated to blind genre predictability. The more intense guitar work of Josette infuses slight southern tinged blues riffs beside Lani Ford’s gritty punk bass rhythms (“18 Again,” “Disturbed”). While on the ditty “Dreams Come True” the entire band is able to successfully turn it down a notch via the foundation of Sweet Rob Endermann’s drumming; resulting in an indie slice of life piece that would could raise the jealousy of Liz Phair.

Vocally Ford has a clean, strong, and melodic alto with a slight vibrato that can draw you in as well as soar over you. Lyrically she is a straight shooter with an onus for tell-all honesty with little subtext that resonates simultaneously as both tough and tender. The yearning “Co-Dependant” depicts a star-crossed relationship with dichotomistic cravings. “This Day” is a tailor made rock anthem about discovering and owning up to ones own self-image. While the stand out “OH NO!” realistically captures the flood of emotions in that first instant of awareness of the inevitable.

The album closes with the acoustic “Butterfly,” a painful and personal “Dear John” letter that exhibits ugly strength and melancholic pathos out of its necessity for finality and moving on. A fitting end to an album full of life experiences from a city that could make anyone put a variety of things to their head and yet still have the will to live again.
